Company History
It all started back in 1957, when Jay Pritzker decided to buy a hotel in Los Angeles that belonged to Hyatt Van Dehn, a California real estate investor.
Hyatt Hotels Corporation was therefore born. The potential for hotels was enormous, and over the next twelve years Hyatt grew in size and reputation, initially in airport locations and then in city centers.
During the 1980’s, Hyatt hotel brands and additional programs were introduced for the first time. The first, Grand Hyatt hotels, were built during this time period to cater to business and leisure travelers as well as large-scale meetings and conventions.
The Park Hyatt brand was also introduced in the 1980’s. This brand is more intimate and luxurious and these hotels provide a more personalized service and elegance that are found in a small European hotel.
The first Hyatt resort opened at the Hyatt Regency Maui in Hawaii. Many resorts would soon follow this one in locations all around the world.
The new corporate headquarters at Hyatt Center was built in Chicago, U.S.A. during the early 2000’s.
The most recent brand addition was the launch of Andaz in 2007. The Andaz brand focuses on making a guest’s stay as personal and unique as possible. Andaz is sophistication made simple.
Today, Hyatt operates hotels in more than 45 countries around the world. The future is bright for Hyatt, with hotels planned in many new countries.
