The Fred Hutch Controls Operating Engineer I/II is a building maintenance technician responsible for independently performing tasks of a skilled nature necessary for the operation, maintenance, repair, testing, troubleshooting, programming, commissioning, and installation of the Building Automation Systems for the Fred Hutch campus. The individual has experience with DDC controls systems such as Siemens, Delta Controls, enteliWeb, etc. The individual will also be responsible for supporting other building control systems such as fire systems, freezer monitoring, elevator operations, and emergency generator status.

Responsibilities
Individual has responsibility over the building controls operation, maintenance, and repairs. Additionally, when acting as Watch Stander, the individual responds to freezers, incubators, or any other alarms initiated by the Building Automation System. Individual may also be assigned to work with and/or train apprentices and other OEs.
Determine HVAC control strategies for specific pieces of equipment
Add control loops to the system using a program language equal to BASIC
Add points to the system
Create, modify or delete control strategies
Assign sensors and/or actuators to control strategy
Tune control loops through adjustment of control loop parameters
Enable or disable control strategies
Select points to be alarmable and define alarm statuses
Select points to be trended over a period of time and initiate recording of values
Install control wiring between control components and pieces of equipment being controlled or monitored
Calibrate various sensors
Create graphics
Create, activate, and debug building automation programs
Test and commission various systems including Fire alarm, Building Automation, Lab Data Acquisition System
Perform energy audits of existing buildings for the purpose of reducing overall building energy usage
Update the electronic log, respond to emails, and communicate as a team player to keep everyone in the loop
Complete work orders daily, assigned by the shop lead, in our computerized maintenance management system
Perform Watch Stander duties on an occasional weekend rotation
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have current Grade III City of Seattle Boiler Operator License or be able to obtain one within 6 months
Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License or ID
Physical skills necessary to climb, bend, stoop, lift and perform tasks utilizing ladders and scaffolds, etc.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Dependable, on-time and proven good work habits
Good communications skills
Able to work a varied schedule including shift work
High School diploma or equivalent
Additionally, knowledgeable in at least two of the following areas: mechanical, plumbing, electrical, welding, steam, and hot water systems or refrigeration
OE I: A skilled professional who generally has over 5 years of experience in the operation, maintenance or repair of one or more of the systems outlined above or the completion of the apprentice program or trade school program. OE II: A skilled professional who has 3-4 years of experience in boiler room operations, equipment maintenance, construction, or similar trades related to mechanical maintenance.
OE I: This position is represented by IUOE-302. The hourly contracted rate for this position is a flat rate of $40.70, which is inclusive of a $8.75 Central Pension Fund diversion.
OE II: This position is represented by IUOE-302. The hourly contracted rate for this position is a flat rate of $37.18, which is inclusive of a $5.00 Central Pension Fund diversion.
Position is eligible for shift differentials, premiums for licenses, and other wage premiums as governed by the collective bargaining agreement.
Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
