Job Description
In this role as a Thermal-Fluids/Cryogenic Design Engineer you will focus primarily on cryogenic application of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and structural mechanics to the development and maintenance of superconducting MRI magnet products and technologies. The position provides the successful candidate with an immediate opportunity to be involved with technology that helps save lives, improve patient outcomes, and reduce the cost of medicine around the world.
Your Role:
Lead end-to-end design activities including requirements management, materials selection, FMEA, tolerance analysis, and full design documentation.
Design, analyze, and test cryogenic system components (vessels, cryostats, piping, tubing, vacuum and refrigeration systems) to ensure performance and reliability.
Develop and validate thermal models to define heat paths and deliver designs that meet strict heat budget requirements.
Execute comprehensive design verification activities, including analysis, similarity assessments, and testing, while resolving field-related performance issues.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external vendors to develop prototypes, qualify components, improve processes, and successfully deliver innovative, best-in-class products through all phases of development.
You're the right fit if:
You have a B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering or Physics.
A minimum of 5+ years of experience applying engineering principles to solve complex problems related to thermal/fluid systems and/or cryogenics.
Experience with advanced analysis tools to solve complex problems at the appropriate level of detail - Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Finite Difference, and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company's facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company's main facilities, generally at the customers' or suppliers' locations.

Philips Transparency Details
The pay range for this position in Latham, NY is $102,000 to $163,000.00.
The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered. Employees are eligible to participate in our comprehensive Philips Total Rewards benefits program, which includes a generous PTO, 401k (up to 7% match), HSA (with company contribution), stock purchase plan, education reimbursement and much more. At Philips, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each case.
