We are seeking a First Cook (chef) for the summer season. Responsibilities of the first cook include: preparing high-quality meals for 700 people as per supplied menu, preparing vegetarian meals, preparing the proper amount of food, portion control, ensuring the meals are served on time, supervising the distribution of food for overnights, baking birthday cakes, taking inventory, organizing food storage, complete all refrigeration and dishwashing logs (in accordance with ACA standards), managing the kitchen staff, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen, dining hall, freezers, and storage room. Foodservice facilities include walk-in coolers; walk-in freezers; dry food storage area; chemical storage area; dishwashing room; and commercial equipment - tilting skillets, convection ovens, pizza ovens, grills, burners, fryolators, mixers, slicers, and more.
Our kitchen is staffed with a head cook, 3 to 4 assistant cooks, 15-19 kitchen staff members, and a food service manager. We offer a competitive salary, travel expenses, comfortable private housing, meals, and laundry service. We also provide full scholarships for the children of staff members. Families are welcome. Camp Lohikan is a coed resident summer camp located in Wayne County, which is situated in northeast Pennsylvania. Camp Lohikan is a traditional summer camp for boys and girls of ages 6 to 15. We are located in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania in the village of Lake Como. We're about 2.5 hours from New York City. Our campers come to camp from all over the world. CAMP LOHIKAN'S FACILITIES are among the most extensive in camping! Requirements
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of cooking experience in quantity food production service, food safety, and sanitation requirements/procedures.
- Culinary school graduates preferred.
- Serv-Safe Certification preferred.
- Ability to handle long hours and camp life with a positive and upbeat attitude.
- General knowledge and understanding of nutrition.
- Ability to interact positively with children, other camp personnel, and the public.
- As a condition of employment applicants must pass Camp Lohikan's pre-offer and post-offer staff screening processes which include: reference checks, criminal background checks, sex-offender registry checks and other staff screening checks deemed appropriate.
