At Dugway Proving Ground (DPG), southwest of Salt Lake City Utah, SA-TECH supports the West Desert Test Center (WDTC), the nation's designated Major Range Test Facility Base (MRTFB) for chemical and biological defense. The WDTC plans, conducts, evaluates, reports, and supports Chemical and Biological (CB) and non-CB testing efforts for the Department of Defense (DoD), other federal agencies, private industries, and foreign Governments (e.g., environmental assessment/impact evaluations, weapons and munitions demilitarization, chemical energetics/homemade explosive testing, unmanned systems testing, direct and indirect fire weapons testing, hazard assessments, and technical/logistical support of operations at DPG).

At DPG, SA-TECH is looking to hire a HVAC Mechanic onto our team to install, service, and repair environmental-control systems in various testing fixtures and chambers at this major DoD Test Facility.

Specific duties include (but are not limited to):

• Utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout, install, service, and repair environmental-control systems in various on-site testing fixtures and chambers.
• Using hand tools and following blueprints and/or engineering specifications, mount compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors.
• Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
• Using hand tools, install evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct systems.
• Cut and bend tubing to correct lengths and shapes, using furnished cutting and bending equipment and tools.
• Using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment, cut and thread pipe.
• Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solder joints using a torch to form a complete circuit for the refrigerant.
• Install expansion and discharge valves in circuits.
• Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connect control panels to power source.
• Install air and water filters in completed installations.
• Inject small amounts of appropriate refrigerants into compressors to test systems and add appropriate refrigerant to build up to prescribed operating pressures.
• Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation.
• Use gauges or soap-and-water solution to test joints and connections for gas leaks.
• Wrap pipes in insulation, batting and securing them in place with cement or wire bands.
• Using electrician's hand tools and test equipment, replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units.
• May install, repair and service air conditioners ranging from 15 to 20 tons cooling capacity, larger chambers, and test fixtures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Work Conditions:

• Work is mostly performed in an environmentally controlled office environment but occasional field work would expose you to the environment.
• May be required to lift and handle heavy items (50 lbs.) as well as use a variety of material-lifting equipment, such as forklifts etc.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
• Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks that require such protective gear.

Requirements:

Education/Experience/Skills

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Current Universal EPA Section 608 certification required.
• Current OSHA Safety Certification.
• Other industry certifications such as NATE (North American Technician Excellence), HVAC Excellence, RSES (Refrigeration Service Engineers Society), Certified HVAC Designer (CHD), and Manufacturer-Specific Certifications would be very helpful in this role.
• Experience fabricating ductwork and other basic metalworking skills, such as bending pipe.
• Must be able to work independently within prescribed limits with minimal supervision.
• A commitment to maintaining a productive and collaborative working environment.
• Current Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
• U.S. Citizenship required and you must have a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and maintain this clearance throughout employment.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical, as well as periodic retests.
• All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver's Record, and a Criminal Background Investigation.
