POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Performs maintenance of environmental test equipment such as low temperature cascade refrigeration equipment; steam and electric humidification; brine fluid pumps, valves and pneumatic/electro-mechanical control valves; vacuum, salt fog, water spray, sand and dust, compressed air, air handling, and other industrial equipment and components normally found in a large environmental testing laboratory. Services compressors, evaporators, condensers, receivers and fluid transfer pumps, lubricates moving parts, tests for leaks and excessive load conditions, disassembles, repairs, replaces, and/or adjusts thermostats, pressure and electromechanical controls, relays, switches, other electronic and pneumatic automatic control devices.
Serves in support of assigned environmental tests. During tests, monitors all equipment, test instrumentation, data recorders, and display units required to monitor and control environments within the test chamber. Work is subject to review by higher level technicians. May be assigned other duties within his or her capabilities.
Work may include cross-utilization into other jobs as required. Normal work schedule is eight hours per day, five days per week. May require some overtime and/or weekend work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualification requirements include demonstration of satisfactory skill and good performance in the particular field; three years progressive experience in the specific field or graduation from a two year resident course related to the specific field at a technical institute. Candidate must be able to attain certification through an Environmental Protection Agency approved program as a Universal Refrigeration Technician.
Must possess a valid driver's license. Applicant selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and maneuver around test sites and facilities systems.
