What You Will Do
- perform duties specific to and normally required in the pipefitter trade, following recognized procedures and techniques for such work;
- perform work needed to fabricate, assemble, install, or repair pipe systems, pipe supports, temperature control devices, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems;
- perform associated work by utilizing oxyacetylene or electric welding processes;
- comply with accepted safety standards;
- perform other related duties as assigned.
- Repair and/or replace chilled water lines of all sizes
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
-  Certificate of completion of Pipetrade apprenticeship under a registered Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training program. 
 OR
- Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Pipefitter or other Pipetrade classification with a minimum of five (5) years (60 months) of actual work in the trade, which may have included apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Pipefitters, Pipefitter Welders, Refrigeration Mechanics, Temperature Control Mechanics, Sprinkler Fitters, and/or Oil Burner Mechanics.

About Extra Help Positions:
Extra Help job listings typically close three days after the opening date, unless specified in the closing date. Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within the university. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Workdays and hours may vary according to departmental requirements. Extra Help employees do not receive SIUE benefits, holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave.
Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900-hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with SIUE, including your position on and Civil Service register. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.
Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, candidates must be a current Illinois resident.

The screening process will encompass a criminal background check and, where applicable, other background checks such as a drug screen, verification of employment and education or licensure/certification, reference checks, and/or checks with relevant government registries. Additional Information: SIUE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States and visa sponsorship for this position will not be provided. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status.
